ATELIER OLSCHINSKY: OUTPOST

Some truly epic abstract landscapes of a futuristic world – that's my take on these pieces by Viennese studio Atelier Olschinsky anyway. I posted some of Atelier's work a while back and it's amazing to see how much their style has developed. The detail is incredible. See more of their work here.

LMD WORK: EURO PHOTOGRAPHY

I thought it was about time that I posted some of my own work. This is something I'm going to try and do more often, but I've been thinking that since the beginning. This time for reals! These HDR shots were taken on a recent trip to Europe. The top shot is a sneaky little alleyway in Glasgow – after some great Indian curry, the middle shot I took in Lyon, France after to some cycle-exploring (and paying ridiculous amounts of money for the bikes due to language barriers) and the third shot is Hamburg Harbour in Germany. This was during a huge harbour festival, there was a great atmosphere. Hamburg is a wonderful city. I'm really enjoying taking HDR shots on sunset. I find the trick is to take the photo while slightly facing toward the sun. You get all sorts of crazy reflections and beams that normal photography can't handle (at least not in my incapable hands anyway). I've recently posted a few more shots on my behance profile check them out and give them an appreciation if you dig them.

BRENDAN FITZPATRICK: SHANGHAI AT NIGHT

I find the urban landscape quite fascinating and great to photograph. It's sometimes difficult to reproduce via photography and I find I can be quite fussy to find the ideal shot. Something I'm missing while I'm living in Germany is my tripod, which would allow me to take shots at night (I haven't given up on the idea though...). I think the city has much more depth at night. As the sun goes down it metamorphoses into a different world. Colour disappears into shadow, objects become silhouettes, and lights bring new colour, light and life into lively areas. Brendan Fitzpatrick has photographed some amazing urban landscapes at night and executed them perfectly. Despite capturing mostly large concrete slabs and there being a minimal, if not absent human presence the essence and life of the city is clearly felt.

LMD WORK: HAMBURG PHOTOGRAPHY

Here are a few snaps I've taken during my current stay in Hamburg. These were all taken on the same day during a walk from the Schanze to the city. It was a quick walk so I hope to go back again and take loads more pics.

MARCO MISHEFF: VERTICAL LANDSCAPE

I found this image by Marco Misheff to be quite haunting and a little surreal – not sure why, although the texture and lighting help to create a unique atmosphere. It almost feels like an apocalyptic setting, or even post apocalyptic given the overall darkness with the exception of the vibrant red streaks glowing from the darkness. Dull shapes sometimes becoming silhouettes of the crane and building look lifeless, uninhabited and eerie – like something from 28 days later. On a final point I love how the image is partially blurred and partially sharp, the blurriness possibly censoring or hiding something vital from the viewer. Overall a fantastically moody piece. JASCHA HOSTE: URBAN EXPLORATION

I stumbled across Jascha Hoste's stock exchange profile the other day and was completely blown away! His work features some of the most amazing urban ruins/old forgotten buildings/unusual eastern euro factories you will find on the net. And it's all (if not mostly) in delicious – not over the top – HDR. I was fortunate enough to explore an abandoned mental asylum about a year ago. It's an incredible feeling walk through a forgotten building. At the time I couldn't help but think that at some point in the past it was much different, I even found myself trying to imagine what it was like. It was an amazing experience – which leaves me feeling a little jealous of Jascha, who has obviously had many more urban adventures than I. Check out his site here.

JOCHEN PACH: KLEINKARIERT

I posted on an awesome series of bridge shots by Jochen Pach a few days ago and today found these amazing shots also taken by him. I was initially fooled into thinking they weren't even photos. JÉRÔME LAUTRÉ: URBAINE POESIE

I thought I'd post these shots by Jérôme Lautré because I think they are amazing depictions of the urban world at night, and I found them reminiscent of images of what the future (now) would be like in 80s film. I was always amazed as a kid at what the future would hold and I've always been a little disappointed that today we don't have hover boards, robots and flying cars. The future was always romanticised with glowing lights, strange clothes and incredible flying technology. The reality is that we have conquered social/communication technologies instead, which seems a little less exciting but without it not even this blog would exist. I think the vision that these 80s artists gave us was merely what the 80s would have look like in the distant future, or perhaps an 80s revival in the distant future. Anyway to me these images are
closer to 80s futuristic references than anything else I've seen, and for that I think they are pretty cool. Check out Jérôme's website for more photographic gems.

Christopher Jones has a great photographic eye which is demonstrated on his behance folio and website. These two really caught my attention, one depicting a winter wonderland, while the other makes great use of silhouettes against an epic sunset.

Armageddon's Light

I just spotted this shot on ramor nathrakh's behance page. I'm not too sure what's going on with the light but I really like. I assume it's some sort of photoshop magic. I think it works really well.

LOITERING

I thought it was probably time I put one of my own pieces up. This piece, titled Loitering, I completed during a phase of "extended photo montage" I went through (and still visit occasionally). On a quiet Sunday I wondered down to one of my favourite parts of my home town Hobart. This hidden away alley showcases some of Hobart's best and most diverse street art. My intention was to simply recreate the space in an art form. This space has gone under a lot of scrutiny in recent times the "ugly" graffiti has made it unpopular with some of the more conservative/unappreciative locals. I love it and I'm glad I can share it with the world. One futile attempt to prevent peeps from tagging/graffing is this insignificant little sign that simple reads "NO LOITERING ALL OFFENDERS PROSECUTED". If anything I think the sign would have an opposite effect as it reinforces the deviant motives in many a street artist and therefore fits into the scene perfectly.

Great shot from Andrzej Furs on Behance. I'm loving the vivid colour contrasting with the dark city scape. The intricate detail in the silhouettes against the bright sky work really well. And then of course, what the hell is the girl doing up there? More of Andrzej's work here.

I spotted this awesome shot on behance this morning on Aengus Oktay Tukel's folio. There's so much going on but it works well, sunlight, shadow, reflection and subtle colours.
