I usually tend to favour slightly darker art but I just got completely sucked into the fun factor of this tee design by Krzysztof Nowak. If I was to choose an super-galatic-hi-top-fighter this would be among my first choices. Krzysztof has many more great designs here.

LMD NEW WORK: SEVENFORTYSEVEN

This is a piece I've been working on for the last six months or so. It is an abstract representation of my recent experiences abroad in Germany, but I prefer the viewer to interpret it in their own way. I also see this as a possible start of a new series that explores the contrast between symbols of power and symbols of anti-power. Hopefully more to come.

DARYL FERIL: FASHION ILLUSTRATIONS - 2010

Daryl Feril made great use of colour and layering in this energetic piece. The vector work itself is great here, borderlining on a little abstract and with a great sensation of action and energy. The colours beneath the vector work give the impression of an underlying meaning (perhaps looking into her soul?) and gives the piece great depth. Daryl has done an amazing job with such a limited colour palette. Nice one Daryl! Check out Daryl's behance and deviantart pages.

DAVID SEGUIN: UNTITLED

Continuing on with my current vector obsession I thought I'd post these winners by David Seguin. In a similar way to another post a week or so ago these feel like they are part of a greater story (possibly the same one). Whether they are or not, I think this element brings a lot of life to these pieces. The characters feel like they have a purpose, and look determined. What makes these pieces feel like they're part of a narrative? I think essentially because these are the equivalent of action shots in the photographic world. They aren't posed characters, but engaged in some form of activity. I've always found action photos (featuring people) a lot more interesting than posed photos, and I think the same applies here. I think Davids execution here is excellent, his use of layering and depth of field bring these pieces to a new level and elevates them beyond the everyday vector art piece. MAJA PETRIC: VECTOR PORTRAITS

I've got vector art on the brain at the moment. I've been getting a few ideas for some upcoming projects, either as prints or t-shirt designs, but have a whole lotta other work to clear through first. Being in this state of mind I'm more attuned to other artist's vector work, and in particular different and kick-ass vector art (as mentioned in previous vector posts). Maja Petric's series Vector Portraits caught my attention on behance this morning I think due to the unique style. Maja's work definitely has a more comic feel to a lot of other work out there, due to the simplicity of the pieces and the slightly stylised execution – differing stroke thicknesses and fantastic use of colour and light (just to name a few). It's a great style that she's tapped into here and I really hope to see more. Check out Maja's DeviantArt page for some more of her work.

HANNAH BACASNO: KATY PERRY + LADY GAGA VECTORS

A few weeks back I posted a vector piece by Joe Murtagh as an example of a vector artist who is doing something notable in ocean of vector art/artists. Hannah Bacasno is another great example of a talented vector artist. Her style is a lot more photo-realistic than Joe Murtagh's but she still has established a strong style which makes use of extensive layering to give fine detail and a very rich image. I can't imagine how long an illustration like this would take, but I think it's obvious that it was worth it. Check out Hannah's website for some other great vectors.

JOE MURTAGH: JAY-Z

I've been following Joe's work on behance for some time now and thought it was about time I posted some of his work. In the design world it's hard to not come across some form of vector graphic everywhere you look. Vector graphics have gone from unique to cliche to absolutely everywhere. To get noticed as a vector artist one must create a significant point of difference to elevate themselves above everything else that's out there. Joe Murtagh has established a beautiful and unique style that elevates him well above the typical vector artist. I recommend checking out his entire folio for a new take on the vector world.

LMD NEW WORK: THE TOGETHER EFFECT

This is a piece that I submitted into an environmental sustainability competition, the 4 top entries will have their piece published on the cover of desktop magazine. I've managed to make it into the top 10 entries but and the final 4 is being decided by public vote. If you like this piece vote for it here.

The following is my rationale that was submitted with the piece:
Environmental sustainability is a global issue that we can't rely on world leaders to address. We as individuals can make a difference by taking the initiative and looking into our own lives.

This image is a vector manipulation of a photo I took of a tree in my backyard. I wanted to highlight the significant role we can play in attaining a sustainable environment. If every person in Australia planted one tree in their backyard we could significantly offset environmentally detrimental facets of our lives.

The task of attaining environmental sustainability is massive, too big for most people to comprehend. But it is a goal that we can all reach one step at a time. When I placed the first triangle in this piece it seemed meaningless and insignificant, the task at hand seemed impossible, but as I slowly progressed and continued to build on that triangle the bigger picture slowly revealed itself into something more powerful. The triangles are representative of people who are individually working towards environmental sustainability, their efforts alone will not have a great impact but together they will make a healthier planet.

LMD: SKULL ANATOMY

This is an old piece of mine. I got the idea for it as I was walking to work – I had to wait for 9 hours before I could get started on it. This was my first intricate/time consuming piece that uses many smaller images to create a larger image. It was lots of fun and I think it's one of my strongest pieces. I've come across similar executions over time, but I think mine always comes out darkest in mood – which I like. The Skull Anatomy t-shirt can be purchased here.

LMD: T-BOMB

An addition to my Star Wars vehicles series. I was always a little facinated by this guy as a kid because it was rarely seen in the films – just once I think. George Lucas and Co were onto such a good thing back then. I think there were certain elements of the Imperial fleet that were borrowed from Nazi Germany, such as the cockpit window which is similar in appearance to some German WW2 bombers.

NEW WORK: DIGITAL ATST

This is another piece for an ongoing series of Star Wars vehicle t-shirts that are currently on sale at my MySoti store. I'm trying to use vehicles that haven't dominated popular culture too much already. This in itself is quite a challenge and I feel that this work is fairly cliche already. On the other side it's fun and experimental and I'm sure (hope) someone out there will appreciate it.

Complexity graphics

This amazing piece is part of a series by Tatiana Plakhova. This series instantly caught my attention, the intricacies, subtle colours and abstract shapes come together beautifully. The option to play a boards of canada track while viewing her work was irresistible and complimented her work perfectly. Amazingly this piece was constructed using illustrator. I thought I new illustrator pretty well.

ARMORED

I have no idea what the rationale is behind this piece, it may not even have one (and who cares if it doesn't!), but I just find myself continually going back for a look. I don't know what it is. It just feels so other-worldly, so fresh. The contrast between vector and image are great. The use of polygon vectors seems to be on the rise so maybe the fresh appeal here will wear off (hope not). The of this piece "Armored" almost implies some sort of futuristic/sci fi connection. I really need to start experimenting more with vectors and photos.
